Health and Well-being Module
OVERVIEW
In 2015, the Green Health Partnership collaborated with GRESB to develop the GRESB Health & Well-being Module - the first portfolio level health assessment for real estate practitioners and investors.
A voluntary add-on to the annual GRESB Real Estate Assessment, the GRESB Health & Well-being Module assesses a real estate company’s internal approach to promoting health for its employees as well as its external approach to promoting health for tenants and communities through real estate fund management.
The Module benchmarks real estate companies based on four components:
Does the company have formal policies and leadership in place with regard to health & well-being?
Does the company have processes to understand health & well-being opportunities related to its practices?
Does the company use specific strategies to act on these opportunities for health promotion?
Does the company have a formal process for monitoring the impact of their health promotion strategies?
The Module ran as a voluntary annual assessment from 2016-2018. Robust participation demonstrated an increasing level of interest in health and well-being among leading real estate companies and funds. Module participation grew from 174 funds in 2016 to 297 funds in 2018, representing a third of GRESB Real Estate participants. The Module also demonstrated that companies and funds are able to make meaningful improvements to their health promotion efforts within just a few years.
The Health & Well-being Module provided an opportunity to test new indicators explicitly focused on the promotion of health and well-being for organizational employees, tenants, and customers. After three years of testing, health and well-being indicators that showed high levels of performance were moved to the 2019 GRESB Real Estate Assessment and have remained in the most recent 2020 GRESB Real Estate Assessment.
