Tools and Incentives for Health-focused Design
Health and well-being are rapidly emerging as important issues for the real estate industry and health-focused tools for project teams are increasing in number. How do these tools align with each other and how can seemingly disparate tools be used side-by-side? In this session, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Green Building Council of Australia and the International WELL Building Institute come together to present their health-focused offerings.
In 2014, public health researchers form USGBC and the University of Virginia School of Medicine worked with additional collaborators to develop an integrative process for health promotion inspired by health impact assessment and integrative process. Iterations of this strategy are available for use in the 2015 Enterprise Green Communities Criteria, the LEED Pilot Credit Library and as a Green Star Innovation Challenge.
In this session, USGBC and Green Star will discuss their integrative process for health promotion strategies. This will be followed by a presentation on how these new strategies relate to the WELL Building Standard and how traditional green building project teams are able to balance environmental outcomes with health outcomes.
